What's Walk WA?

Walk WA is a whole-of-government, whole-of-community strategy developed by the Physical Activity Taskforce with input from key stakeholders across State Government, Local Governments and various non-government agencies.

Walk WA is a whole-of-government, who-of-community strategy developed by the Physical Activity Taskforce with input from key stakeholders across State Government, Local Government and various non-government agencies.

The decision to concentrate efforts on walking was easy. Whilst we know that nearly half of West Australian adults are currently not doing enough physical activity for good health, we are also aware that of those that are active – walking is the popular activity: it is easy to do, convenient, and requires no special equipment.

What’s more walking is open to nearly everyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or socio-economic status.  It is a form of exercise, transport and social activity and can increase social interaction, enhance community wellbeing and assist in crime prevention in neighbourhoods as there are more “eyes on the street”.

Efforts to address walking by the Taskforce are in line with the following strategy document:


Current activity is guided by the Walk WA Implementation Plan 2009 which is overseen by the Walk WA Strategic Implementation Group.
