The Taskforce 2009 Implementation Plan has been endorsed by the Chair of the Taskforce, the Honorable Terry Waldron, Minister for Sport and Recreation. The plan outlines the proposed actions by government and non government agencies linked to the Taskforce for 2009.

Baby Boomers Battle the Bulge

Almost half of all baby boomer Western Australians (those aged over 45) are not participating in enough physical activity and are less active than the rest of the adult population.

In a report The Baby Boomers and Beyond 53 per cent of those aged 45 years and over were participating in sufficient levels of physical activity, six per cent less than the level of adult population across the state.

Last Round of Local Government Activity Grants Announced

The Town of Claremont and Shires of Busselton, Ravensthorpe, Dundas and Ngaantayjarraku will for the first time receive funding from the Premier’s Physical Activity Taskforce’s Local Activity Grants Program to encourage their communities to be more active.

Other local councils to receive funding are Bridgetown-Greenbushes, Brookton, Capel, Collie, Corrigin, Derby-West Kimberly, Dowerin, Esperance, Geraldton-Greenough, Goomalling, Harvey, Kwinana, Manjimup, Nedlands, Rockingham, South Perth, Victoria Plains and York.

A total of $300 000 in funding was granted in the last round of the Local Government Activity Grants. Since the inception of the program in 2003 a total of $2,070,123 funding has been awarded to 160 projects across 109 local governments.
