Linked In 2 Youth Seminar

The Linked in 2 Youth Seminar was held on Tuesday 21 September 2010. The purpose of this seminar was to discuss a range of strategies to engage young people in physical activity.

Three guest speakers presented, followed by a panel discussion. The guest speakers were as follows:

  1. Ben Kent, WA Young Member for National Youth Week 2010 and Department of Transport. His presentation was called “What works from a youth’s perspective”.
  2. Allan Tranter, Creating Communities. His presentation was called “Community planning for an active population”.
  3. Nick Marvin, Perth Wildcats. His presentation was called “How sport can effectively use social media".

The Panel Discussion consisted of the following members:

  • Nick Marvin
  • Lyndsey Stoney, Shire of Mundaring
  • Renee McCabe, Surf Lifesaving WA

As CEO of Perth Wildcats, Nick Marvin's club website is the most trafficked in the NBL. Using direct marketing and online strategies, the club’s membership has experienced annual growth of 35% resulting in consecutive sell-out attendances for over two years.
