Participation in physical activity is important for the health and wellbeing of Australians.  Physical activity is of clear benefit in five of the six current Australian National health priorities including:

  • cardiovascular disease prevention;
  • diabetes prevention and control;
  • the primary prevention of some cancers;
  • injury prevention and control; and,
  • the promotion of mental health.

Participation in physical activity also provides a range of social, environmental and economic benefits and therefore has an important role in the wellbeing of both individuals and communities.

Download the attached fact sheet for the facts and statistics supporting the benefits of physical activity.
