Move More Outdoors - Presentation by William Bird

On Thursday 15 September, at an event hosted by the Physical Activity Taskforce, Dr William Bird presented his ideas around the role of primary health care to encourage behaviour change and increase physical activity participation in the natural environment.

About the Presenter

Dr Bird is a renowned General Practitioner and UK public health professional who sits on the board of the UK Public Health Association and is founder and CEO of Intelligent Health Ltd.  Intelligent Health Ltd. uses technology and behaviour change to get more people active outdoors.

Dr Bird is also an honorary senior lecturer at the European Centre for Environment and Human Health, the leading centre to understand the health benefits of the natural environment. He has won several national Innovation awards, was awarded the MBE in 2010 and was chosen as one of the UK's top 100 people to make the world a better place.

As part of his role with the Board of the UK Government's physical activity programme he was tasked with the objective of delivering 2 million more active people by the 2012 Olympic Games.

In this presentation he talks about his concept of Green Gyms, Blue Gyms and Health Walks as key initiatives to increase physical activity.

Dr Bird was also joined by Griffin Longley from Nature Play WA who provided an update on the Green Scripts pilot project in Western Australia.
