Research shows that less than half of Western Australian primary school children participate in sufficient levels of physical activity for good health. Only 41% of primary school aged boys and 27% of primary school aged girls are getting the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day for healthy growth and development.
One way to increase physical activity levels among WA primary students is for schools to encourage students to walk, cycle, scooter or take public transport to and from school. These modes of transport are known as active transport.
Choose Active Transport provides a range of whole-school approach ideas and developmentally appropriate classroom based activities that can complement annual programs such as Walk to School Day and Bike Week. The resource is accompanied by a big picture book for early childhood students called Matilda’s Morning Adventures.
Matilda's Storybook
Matilda's Morning Adventures is an early childhood storybook designed to accompany the Choose Active Transport resource for teachers.
