This submission is written on behalf of the Physical Activity Taskforce (the Taskforce) to provide comment on the review of the functions and responsibilities of Regional Development Commissions, to assist in the development of a reform agenda for regional development and in implementing the review’s recommendations.

In the submission the Taskforce sets out the following key areas for consideration by the Review Committee in the finalisation of the functions and responsibilities of the Regional Development Commissions.

  1. That regional office board membership includes a public health representative to advocate for the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities and to ensure that public health issues are considered in all decision-making.
  2. That the Taskforce, as a whole of government agency and providing multiple benefits for individuals and communities, is consulted on regional development and policy.
  3. That key research of the Taskforce and its members is utilised in developing further a state-wide perspective of regional conditions in particular the levels of physical activity in regional communities and the benefits afforded by prioritising this agenda.
  4. That in the creation of a regional blueprint the newly developed Physical Activity Planning and Outcomes Framework is considered to support a coordinated and integrated approach to the planning and delivery of services at a state and local level.
  5. That the Taskforce is invited to meet with the WARDC and present on the role and functions of the Taskforce as well as how the physical activity framework can contribute to achieving the outcomes of the Regional Development Commission’s.
